Chapter 4 — Knowledge for treatment

19

There are three kinds of fertility treatment

Those that use your own ovulation (timed intercourse, IUI) and the one that bypasses it (IVF).

Treatment divides into methods that use your own ovulation (timed intercourse, IUI) and one that bypasses it to collect eggs directly (IVF). The first relies on ultrasound to pinpoint ovulation; the second gains efficiency by handling several eggs at once. Per cycle: 1–4%, 4–8%, and 20–30% up to age 30.

What you can do now

Plan first-line treatment in blocks of 3–5 cycles, with a decision to step up if it has not worked.
